Field of Dreams continued or…the fantastic voyage.
Last night I had this dream, I am in the belly of a very large wooden ship preparing for a long and wondrous journey (its been a long time since I could remember a dream). I am packing all the items I need carefully along the hull so they won’t be disturbed in the rocking seas. I can see the beautiful ocean swells out on the horizon, gentle rolling waves, 8-12 footers.
I’m into my third week of community acupuncture and all I can say is, “I built it, and they came!” Yesterday I saw ten people in about five hours. I am already fast approaching 30 patients per week, no advertising, and I am only open 3 days a week at present. In my private practice, working 3 days, I typically saw no more than 12 a week! I still feel a bit like a new waiter in a busy restaurant – I haven’t quite got my routines down, but that will come.
Yesterday as I was flying along from new patient to new patient, I went to sit down to do my next intake with a woman who had been waiting patiently in one of the lazy-boys. (I should call them lazy-girls, as most of my clients thus far have been women) “Could I give you a hug first?” she asked. “Of course”, I said. That pause and moment of appreciation from the universe was a gift indeed.
Right now I feel like a very lucky acupuncturist, on a fantastic voyage, finally getting to be an acupuncturist!
Thanks you all for your blessings and support. All I can say is, “Build it, they will come!”

Hi Michael,
Congratulations on your auspicious beginning. I instantly gravitated to your mariner analogies. Reminded me of a drive out to Port Renfrew many years ago with a few Victoria mates, loading up our sea kayaks for a long sea journey. Feeling the first moment when the boat floats away from the beach...may the magic of beginner's mind and new beginnings never be left in your wake.
