And now for something completely different....

My kind of book report....

Not knowing what to write about this month I thought I’d share some excerpts from a book I am reading called A New Earth – Awakening to your life’s purpose by Eckhart Tolle. He is the same author of the book The Power of Now. Like a lot of information out there right now, it may not be anything you haven’t heard before. I think it’s relevant with all the aspects of running a practice as well as personal growth. Timing can be key to “getting” something or maybe it’s just a matter of hearing it again. With that in mind I would like to share some passages from this transformational book. I encourage you to get the book for yourself.

“The moment you become aware of the ego in you, it is strictly speaking no longer the ego, but just an old, conditioned mind-pattern. Ego implies unawareness. Awareness and ego cannot coexist. The old mind-pattern or the mental habit may still survive and reoccur for awhile because it ahs the momentum of thousands of years of collective human unconsciousness behind it, but every time it is recognized, it is weakened.’

“It has been said “God is love” but that is not absolutely correct. God is the One Life in and beyond the countless forms of life. Love implies duality: lover and beloved subject and object. So love is the recognition of oneness in the world of duality. This is the birth of God into the world of form. Love makes the world less worldly, less dense, more transparent to the divine dimension, the light of consciousness itself.”

“Give up defining yourself – to yourself or to others. You won’t die. You will come to life. And don’t be concerned with how others define you. When they define you, they are limiting themselves, so it’s their problem. Whenever you interact with people, don’t be there primarily as a function or a role, but as a field of conscious Presence.”

““One day I will be free of the ego””. “ Who is talking? The ego. To become free of the ego is not really a big job but a very small one. All you need to do is be aware of your thoughts and emotions – as they happen. This is not really a “doing” but an alert “seeing”. In that sense, it is true that thee is nothing you can do to become free of the ego. When that shift happens, which is the shift from thinking to awareness, an intelligence far greater than the ego’s cleverness begins to operate in your life.”

“People unknowingly sabotage their own work when they withhold help or information from others or try to undermine them lest they become more successful or get more credit then “me”. Cooperation is alien to the ego, except when there is a secondary motive. The ego doesn’t know that the more you include others, the more smoothly things flow and the more easily things come to you. When you give little or no help to others or put obstacles in their path, the universe - in the form of people and circumstances – give little or no help to you because you have cut yourself off from the whole.”

“Ego-generated emotions are derived from the mind’s identification with external factors which are, of course, all unstable and liable to change at any moment. The deeper emotions are not really emotions at all but states of Being. Emotions exist within the realm of opposites. States of Being can be obscured, but they have no opposites. They emanate from within you as the love, joy, and peace that are aspects of your true nature.”

“If the thought of lack- whether it be money, recognition, or love – has become part of who you think you are, you will always experience lack. Rather then acknowledge the good that is already in your life, all you see is lack. Acknowledging the good that is already in your life is the foundation for all abundance. The fact is: Whatever you think the world is withholding from you, you are withholding from the world.”….

“The source of all abundance is not outside you. It is part of who you are….”

Vlad, Considering most of the aluminum sliding salesmen wouldn't have shared their goods, you are doing pretty well. Anyway, look forward to seeing your t-shirt.

Re: And now for something completely different....

Well Joseph it bothers me that Lisa and I could be singled out for that. I mean we are all in a healing profession but I guess what's expected is not service to the patients but the medical provider getting as much as they can? But yet there it is. Healers=Aluminum siding salesmen.

Well I do have something to look forward to: One of my patients is getting me a T-shirt that says Vlad The Impaler. You bet I'll wear it at work.

Re: And now for something completely different....

Skip,
When I read that passage I thought of how much you and Lisa have given of yourselves, to our profession, to CAN and to all of us...

I hope for cooperation in myself, in CAN, and the whole healing field. That's the whole reason for CAN, IMO.

Not sure who from BCA is posting but thanks - I read that book last year, and I continuously re-read the PON... good good stuff.
