Acupuncture A-Go-Go
Gosh, so many intelligent posts...allow me to dumb it down and rant this week.
I've been in satire-land lately as the acupuncture sitcom gets ready to air. It's terrifying in many ways. My Kidneys feel like they're sucking on lemons of fear. Yesterday, did I really record a disco song about a smorgasbord that relates to acupuncture? There goes that "Acupuncturist of the Year" award. Forever. Tear.
However, I'm so inspired by what's-her-name-with-the-orange- book, by helping me think out of the box of this profession. Of course, if the sitcom flops, I'll blame her, kind of like how you're now supposed to blame your friends if you're overweight.
The purpose of The Pindoctor Show is to put a humorous and human face to this often mysterious profession. I believe westerners need a new perspective of Chinese Medicine and I think humor can be a great vehicle for that understanding. Because, being funny isn't about being funny, it's about being honest. And, honestly, there's a lot of funny things about our profession and those who practice it. (Rest assured, I skewer the **** out of myself in the first episode.)
I hope we can all work on new ways to present our amazing medicine to western minds. See, I knew there was a point to be made in here somewhere.
Oh, here's a juicy tidbit from a reliableish source:
This is a page (allegedly) from the diary of the head guy at some acupuncture-related-type agency of sorts. Are you seated?
"Lately I've been struggling with the overall presentation of Chinese Medicine: Bamboo, Papyrus Fonts, Koi... No wonder Americans have trouble accepting and integrating it into their lives. We need to swap this imagery with Steel, Helvetica Fonts and Steak!"
Wait a minute...that's my handwriting! Oh, for shame.
Yes CAN friends, as you can see, we are in this by ourselves, together as one!
With love and devotion,
Mats Sexton, L.Ac.

Re: Acupuncture A-Go-Go
Lucky for me there's no chance at all your sitcom will flop. Especially not with that theme music! Very nice.
Re: Acupuncture A-Go-Go
Welcome to my clinic...
"The Steel Garden"
(not a chance THAT one will get mistaken for a Chinese restaurant...maybe an auto detailing service, but hey)
Re: Acupuncture A-Go-Go
But do you literally skewer yourself? And I'm having a hard time picturing a steak pond, but I'm with you on a temporary ban of Papyrus font!
Thanks for the chuckle Mats!
Re: Acupuncture A-Go-Go
Keep 'em coming, Mats. I'd do most anything for a good laugh.
Re: Acupuncture A-Go-Go
Go Acupuncture, Go Mats! Can't wait to see your show!
