Running miles and gaining inches...
...is pretty much how these last couple of weeks before we open are feeling right about now. But I just feel so damned lucky that the 3rd floor of the firehouse my husband is transforming was already in a relatively renovated state compared to that money pit we almost tried to turn into our workhome. The last minute detail kinds of questions about it that sometimes keep me up at night are only along the lines of:
Do we need a cash register? A safe?
What about a paper towel dispenser?
Where are we going to keep the mop?
Stuff like that. Nothing that we can’t handle by ourselves or by posting questions on the CAN forum. Which brings me to my next topic: the shameless promotion of the Community Acupuncture Network.
Since the beginning of Prick, Prod, and Provoke I have absolutely loved reading everyone’s blog entries and comments. But I was forgetting something. I was forgetting how inspiring, informative, transformational, and fun the forum threads can be. One morning last week I remembered to check out the forums, and of course there were about a million new threads for me to catch up on. And in the space of about 15 minutes, I went from the general sense of terror I feel about opening soon to genuine excitement at the prospect of it all, remembered that we really need to have that press release ready to go, as well as a business associate agreement for our volunteers, and got some recommendations for treatment room music.
My point being: if you haven’t already done so, JOIN CAN. I can’t even begin to emphasize enough how lucky I feel that I joined when I did, how grateful I am for this beautifully real community. Of course, not everyone is going to find a business partner the day after they join like I did, though if that’s what you’re looking for, this is the place.
The other day I saw a forum thread where people were invited to share other acupuncture websites they find helpful and use frequently. There was only one listed, I believe, and as I tried to think of some to share myself, it hit me: oh, right, the reason I can’t think of any is because I don’t need a whole lot more than the one I’m on right now.

Re: Running miles and gaining inches...
Thanks everybody! No, I didn't know about the line or two in Yes magazine. I am guessing Korben does and maybe forgot to tell me? :-)
Our official open to the public day is going to be Aug. 13th - and I think we might be actually be ready for it.

Re: Running miles and gaining inches...
It seems to me since reading your posts that you will have nothing to worry about except what to do with all of your patients spilling out of your clinic. By the way, is your partner Korben Perry? A line or two was written about you in "Yes!" Magazine...of course you know that already. If it is you, just sure make the article appears somewhere in your clinic. I for one am always impressed with a bit of fame.

Go Ellen! It's so exciting to see you rolling- it will only get better from here- and harder too for a while... but it's the patients that keep you going...we're rooting for you all the way
Love,
Michelle

Ellen -
We are all cheering for you and Korben! Hang in there and good luck...the people of Philly are waiting for you, and, remember, they don't care if you have a place to put the mop. : )
