Coming out!

Okay, well, I don't want to rub it in...but while a lot of the posts I read are from folks in areas where it is cold and/or snowy I have to say it is so beautiful down here in south Florida these days. Our local political climate might not be the best but the sunshine factor makes it all a little more bearable. I was at my clinic on Monday and was able to throw open all the windows. The rustling of the palm fronds in the wind were so incredibly soothing (almost hypnotic) that I decided not to turn on the cd player that day. Our clinic is a couple of floors up and surrounded by beautiful trees - it almost felt like we were in a tree-house! At one point during the day I thought to myself, "Why would anyone want to be cooped up in a private treatment room when all this gorgeous open space is available....to everyone!"

I am so grateful to have found the support through this site to come out of the treatment room and into the treatment space! I must admit that in the beginning I had to rely heavily on intuition and faith that this was the right move for me. I was reading all these exciting and innovative posts on this site. "Heck, if they can do it than so can I" I thought to myself. I was right! And so can ANYONE with a committment to making a change in the way healthcare is administered in this country. We all must support one another and encourage new practitioners in this new era of delivering quality acupuncture to people who otherwise would not be able to afford it. The past five months have been some of the scariest, exciting, and some of the most rewarding times I can remember - I wouldn't trade that experience for anything.

For those of you out there thinking about coming out of the treatment room - I say swing that door open and go for it. Besides being so freeing for yourself as a practitioner, it is exponentially more important to the people you will be able to treat. People who never would have been able to avail themselves to this important medicine will be empowered to get, stay, be healthy in body and mind.

Okay, I'm getting off my soap box and going back to my treehouse for a bit now!

Re: Coming out!

I love the coming-out metaphor. So much about the conventional treatment model is claustrophobia-inducing to me. And so much about running a community clinic really does feel like swinging from the branches... and going out on various limbs...thanks, David.

Re: Coming out!

We are feeling those breezes here on the west coast as well!
