Introduction to Community Acupuncture (video)
Hello fellow CANers,
This link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Nq2KAl8bwQ is for a youtube video that I just completed with a friend and patient at WCA. It is titled “Introduction to Community Acupuncture” and is searchable by the following tags: community acupuncture CAN skateboarding extreme sport pain management Chinese oriental medicine health Moses Cooper Gage
This is the video description:
Introduction to Community Acupuncture (CA): The Community Acupuncture Network (CAN) is a nonprofit organization of practitioners, patients, and supporters whose goal is to make acupuncture more affordable and accessible by promoting the practice of offering acupuncture in community settings for a sliding scale payment ranging within $15-40 per treatment. Community acupuncture was started by the founders of the Working Class Acupuncture Clinic located in Portland Oregon.
Co-produced by Moses Cooper & Thomas Gage. Directed by Thomas Gage. http://www.thomasgage.com
For more information on CA or to locate a clinic near you, visit:

My goal in creating this video is to increase the visibility and ease of introduction to the Community Acupuncture Network (CAN) and community acupuncture in general. Viewing a 3 minute introductory video develops a relatable connection with patients unfamiliar with CA by sharing a personal story. Let me know what you think of the video.
This is my youtube page write up for the CA video (visit my page by searching for username 4321mcooper):
Name: Moses
I am an acupuncturist at the Working Class Acupuncture (WCA) clinic in Portland Oregon. I am also a lifetime skateboarder and I actually got into acupuncture through skateboarding.
Chronic joint pain from repeated skateboard injuries brought me to many medical professionals, and ultimately to sustained pain relief through acupuncture.
WCA is a community acupuncture (CA) clinic. That means getting an acupuncture treatment at WCA costs less. Patients pay what they choose on a sliding scale between $15.00-$35.00, and they never need any proof of income to choose how much to pay. Treatment lasts as long as you want it to. In this clinic you tell your acupuncturist what stress or pain you want to focus treatment on and then simply rest once the needles are placed. Your treatment is complete when you are naturally alert and ready to move again. On average, most patients rest for about an hour. Your treatment is in a large room in a community setting.
To get ready for treatment you simply sit in a comfortable reclining chair, roll up your shirt sleeves to your elbows and pant legs to your knees, and take your shoes and socks off. Thant's all. Then just lay back and relax.
Check out www.communityacupuncturenetwork.org to learn more about community acupuncture or to locate a CA clinic near you.
Cheers,
Moses

Hi Diane,
I use a board from 'Rebel Skates". It's a local skate shop around the Burside/ Sandy intersection. The guy who runs the place has a good heart and a strong rebellious streek.

Re: Introduction to Community Acupuncture (video)
Good one Moses and Thomas.
What type of board do you use? That was a question from my duly impressed 10 year old skateboarder fledgeling son.
Re: Introduction to Community Acupuncture (video)
acupuncture makes me cool
Re: Introduction to Community Acupuncture (video)
Good work Moses and Thomas, and thanks for sharing it!
P.S. Love the skating! Here's a fun thing a friend of mine organized for the San Francisco Exploratorium years ago (he works there doing website projects) on the physics of skating--just for fun: http://www.exploratorium.edu/skateboarding/
Re: Introduction to Community Acupuncture (video)
Justine and anyone else who might be interested,
Feel free to use this video link on your acupuncture website to spread the word about CA.
Best,
Moses
Re: Introduction to Community Acupuncture (video)
Awesome video! I absolutely love it, on so many levels- you present yourself and your story so beautifully and can appeal to so many people on so many levels. I hope you don't mind if we add this tag to our website- it is simply divine!
Re: Introduction to Community Acupuncture (video)
Diana asked: "Now can I post this link on my website, and if so, why does it only take me to a general youtube page and not the specific one?"
This video is about educating as many people as possible about CA. As far as I am concerned it's public property if it's on youtube and is not directly selling anything, so go ahead and post the link on your website. To link to the specific video and not just the youtube homepage be sure to copy the exact link information as follows: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Nq2KAl8bwQ

Great video Moses. Thanks for sharing this. And a deep bow to the master videographer, Thomas Gage, whose photo of CommuniChi was finally uploaded to our home page....talk about feng shui magic...check out the rainbows floating down over our space:

Re: Introduction to Community Acupuncture (video)
That's a good point Freedmezo!
However, youtube limits the amount of tags per video and the thought of groupies makes me feel queasy. They probably limit the tags so I can't add things like "extreme curling" or "ninja (fill in the blank)". These tags would of course be fun. Oh well.
Moses
Re: Introduction to Community Acupuncture (video)
Nice Mosinhosa, nice! GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL!
I still think there should be way more tags ... I mean if people can't search for Mosinhosa or acu-ninja, for instance, how will you get the groupies that are due you?

Comrade Moses Advances the Revolution through Exalted Skateboarding Propaganda!
I get to work with the coolest people.
Re: Introduction to Community Acupuncture (video)
I love this video!! I love how it explains Community Acupuncture, I love how simple and to the point it is, I love how you present yourself, Moses, and the medicine, and I love the skateboarding!
(I 'm watching this and saying, "geez, can people really do things like that?". ) I plan on showing it to my 4 1/2 year old grandson so he can get some dangerous ideas, and so he will get a little more of an idea of what his Nana does at work.
Overall, monsterously cool! Now can I post this link on my website, and if so, why does it only take me to a general youtube page and not the specific one?
Re: Introduction to Community Acupuncture (video)
Thank you Lupine and Ron,
I am a little overwhelmed by support right now. It's amazing that in one day the CA video has had almost 100 views!
Ron, it is definitely possible to get a DVD copy for presentations. Thomas Gage is the tech wizard behind making what I say and do in the video look good. He can create a DVD from the master file. It all just takes some time. Send me an email and we will talk about more details.
Moses
Re: Introduction to Community Acupuncture (video)
Moses,
A deep bow to you... and to Thomas.
Very well done.
I would like to share it with as many others as possible. Is the best way to do this by
emailing the U Tube link?
Is it possible to get it on a DVD to show before a
presentation?

THIS ROCKS!!!!!!!
Moses, not only have you proven yourself a fine clinician in the world of WCA, but, now you have become a PR genious! Can't wait to brainstorm on how and where we can get this out to skaters of P-
Town!
Oh yeah...and you are a pretty wicked skater too. Geez.
