Marketplace (or, Why the Front Page Rearrange)

Lisa Rohleder's picture

Back in June, I got a call from a freelance NPR reporter about doing a story for the show Marketplace about community acupuncture. He lives in Philadelphia, and he learned about community acupuncture the way everybody else does -- because his girlfriend's roommate gets treated at PCA. Sure, I said, and then I didn't say anything about it here because I don't believe these things until they actually happen.

It was another six weeks before he called again and said that Marketplace said yes to the story. Then it was another couple of weeks before he interviewed me by phone, and then he went in person to PCA to interview Korben, Ellen, and some of their patients. He said the story would probably run the last week in August -- and of course Korben and Ellen and I were all hoping it would run while we were visiting them in Philly, so we could quiver in terror together while we were listening. We didn't hear anything, so we called him, and he said that the story was still being edited, and it could run any day now, and he would "probably" be able to tell us ahead of time.

But just in case we don't get any warning, we're telling all of you now.  Stories on Marketplace only run about three minutes in length, but guess how many people listen to Marketplace in a given week? Did you guess eight to ten million? Are you now hoping that 1) this reporter has a kind heart, and 2) none of us said anything stupid? Yeah, us too. Also, the story will remain on Marketplace's website, as far as I can tell, for a year or more, probably with a link to the CAN website.

So. In the hopes that this unprecedented level of publicity will lift all of our boats, we did a hasty rearrangement of the front page to make it easier for those millions of potential patients to find a clinic. We'll see how this new arrangement works, and if it doesn't, we'll change it again. Cross your fingers, everybody!

Whoo Hoo!!

This should be fun!  I like the map and the intro, too.  :)

Here's for a smooth incoming

Here's for a smooth incoming tide lifting our fleet of chi ships off the shores of obscurity into the great wide currents of global health care. Good job everyone.

All true religions seek to gain access to that level of consciousness which is not ego-bound.</

It's about time!

wow, this is exciting. I'll make sure to listen to Marketplace (I'm sure my 4 year old will be excited by that!) Now, all we need is to have our clinic added to the Locate A Clinic page.

I like the new look of the front page. The map is nice.

Grand Opening?

So, basically, although it is unwritten (soon to change, I suppose), from here on out, clinics won't be listed on LOC page until they are about to open...a week or so.  Although y'all are excited about opening, patients won't find much use of a listing until your doors are actually open and poking has begun...

Hope that makes sense to folks.

Now, good luck David (and you are now up on LOC)

I think this is a better

I think this is a better front page than the previous one - I often thought twice before referring people to the CAN site because it lacked this introduction.

I like it, too.

But being the 3 year-old that I am, I clicked Europe on the map and was disappointed that our international members over there weren't mentioned immediately.

well....

In order to get this up and running quickly, this "generic" map is being used.  The goal is to have a pinpoint map with points for each clinic....a live, auto-matically updated google map of some kind...but, alas, time & money are required (both of which are in short supply)...so, stay tuned.

You still manage to perform miracles with the time and

money we have.  Give yourselves a nice pat on the back!

I have a soft spot for

I have a soft spot for Marketplace (they were using Gang of Four for their interstitial music the other day!) and I'm sure you all did great.  Looking forward to hearing the story, and new the front page looks great.  World domination, here we come!

I like the front page too, very user friendly

Congrats everyone.
