CAN Website Reconstruction Still Ongoing!

Skip's picture

Much like Dwight Eisenhower envinsioned a national network of superhighways and John Kennedy thought of landing a man on the moon   , the CAN website is undergoing a huge reconstruction so that it can handle the needs of everyone who uses it.

Much of the work you'll never see as it entails making the site more flexible so that future changes will happen much more easily than otherwise. Still we can already see some changes like the different login proceedure or the look of the forums. Unfortunately as part of the makeover some previous features were temporarily disabled: private messaging, "mark forums as read", and others are gone now but will be back soon: later this week.

Speaking of later this week, around midweek I'll start a thread in the Dear CAN forum so that everyone can post comments about the changes.  That will be the place to say, "You forgot...".  The reason I haven't put that up yet is that the web folks know about many of the glitches and will probably fix them in the next day or two; might as well let them work to a certain end point first.  Meanwhile if there's anything you want to say, say it here including something you see that needs to be fixed ASAP.  I'll read the comments and forward them on.

web upgrade

Couple of minor details I noticed: Font size. Get out your magnifying glass when drafting blog posts! When I change the font size to "18"...that makes it easier to see, but if I skip two spaces at the end of a paragraph, I need to reset the fonts size at "18".

When deleting an old signature image, that has to be done in one operation before adding a new image. Sort of makes sense, but the way it is layed out, it looks like you can do both operations simultaneously.

Emoticons: The separate page with emoticons pops up off center.

That's all I noticed.

On the positive side, I so appreciate the new log in smoothness.

A thing I noticed just now

A thing I noticed just now in writing the blog is that I couldn't have paragraphs.  I tried but they all got mashed together.

bugs

It's difficult initially to find the cursor in The Paragraph "box"  - you can't click near the left inside edge of the box....that doesn't get you a cursor...I need to click just to the left of my signature which is scrunched up in the middle of the box.
