Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Inspired by the Board Meeting

Last week I spent 3 of the best days of my life. I was in the company of like-minded, like-hearted acupuncturists who put the patients first and strive to do good in the world. After 2 years of only they know how much work, time and money put into CAN, WCA turned CAN over to the new CAN board, which has no WCA personnel aboard.

A primary motivator for proponents of the first professional doctorate in the acupuncture profession is access to and acceptance within the western medical care model.  This infuses the existing dominant medical paradigm with their own essence and relabels it "integrative medicine".  While a collective professional inferiority complex is outside the scope of this piece, we would d

Fear

We took my two sons to Rehoboth Beach in Delaware this summer, their first trip to the ocean. Midwestern natives, the boys and I grew-up on Lake Michigan’s shores, comfortably viewing the Great Lake’s waters as far as the eyes could see. But the saltiness, the beachiness, the waviness of the Atlantic all presented new experiences for my young clan.

A new model of practice.  In case folks haven't seen this, a recent grad from a TCM school in the UK sent me the article after completing research on such facilities for his final year research paper.  Looks like ideas are spreading!  Here is a link to the article which was published in this months Journal of Chinese Medicine.  http://www.jcm.co.uk/catalogue.php?catID=203&opener=0-195

Community Acupuncture for Disaster and Trauma

This past weekend I was in Portland, attending Acupuncturists Without Borders "Healing Community Trauma" training. Since its founding by Diana Fried in September of 2005, following Hurricane Katrina, AWB has evolved into one of the leading acupuncture professional groups with a social conscience.

WCA Jingei pulse DVD review

I have found that the most valuable workshops are the one’s that you can apply the next day after taking them. Richard Tan workshops are like that for me. The Jingei pulse diagnosis DVD produced by WCA and Skip Van Meter is another. It is something you can watch and then implement immediately.

Mandala of Chi

At 7pm tonight I was pretty pooped. Between 830am and 7pm, I had treated about 38 patients. Another acupunk friend had treated another 8 during one busy stretch in the morning. At one point, seven patients walked through the door simultaneously. Three of them had walkers.

Everyone can relax....
